Today, we are highlighting 2 nonprofits for Nonprofit November: Communities in Schools (CIS) Jacksonville & The Sanctuary on 8th Street.
Communities In Schools of Jacksonville (CIS Jax) provides vital support to students in Duval County public schools. Their team works inside classrooms and in the community to help at-risk students overcome challenges like absenteeism and academic struggles through the strengthening of relationships with caring adults, case management, literacy tutoring, and workforce development.
The Sanctuary on 8th Street creates a safe, enriching after-school space for Jacksonville youth. For over 30 years, they’ve offered homework help, one-on-one tutoring, recreation, art, gardening, yoga, coding, and more. They empower children and families by meeting their spiritual, social, intellectual, and physical needs — helping them grow in confidence and community.
CIS helps keep students in school and connected to their future. Sanctuary on 8th Street gives children a stable, nurturing place to learn and grow after the school day ends. Together, these nonprofits strengthen Jacksonville’s youth by building academic skills and personal resilience.
